What is the UMPC?
It's a new platform launched by Intel and Microsoft to define a new kind of affordable lightweight portable PC's, half-way between the PocketPC PDA and the TabletPC.
What is the Origami?
That was only Microsoft's codename for the UMPC.
Who is making the UMPC?
Any PC manufacturer who has licensed the UMPC. The first ones are Asus, Samsung and Founder. More will follow.
What are the specifications?
The common minimal specifications are:
-a 7" (or smaller) touchscreen slate computer -900 grams or lighter -operating system: Windows XP TabletPC Edition 2005 which is a special version of XP Pro fitted with handwriting recognition and accessibility utilities. -USB2, WiFi, Bluetooth -a Centrino CPU -on-screen keyboard and/or small built-in keyboard
The first models stick to these specifications, future models could include GPS, mobile phones, swivel screens all depending on the different manufacturers.

Does it run Windows XP softwares?
Yes, Windows XP TabletPC Edition 2005 runs un-modified XP softwares.
How big is it?

That big: a 7", 900 grams tablet.

Is it better/bigger/smaller than the OQO Model 01+?
The OQO takes roughly half the volume of the first bunch of UMPC's, as can be seen below:

The current OQO being a Crusoe CPU-based PC, it is slower than the Centrino CPU of the UMPC. The OQO has the advantage of being pocketable but costs twice the price.
When will it be available?
It could be as early as April 2006.
How much will it cost?
UMPC's are meant to be affordable and should cost between 700 and 1000 EUR or lower.
