What's new in the OQO Model O1+?
 real size picture
The 01+ is quasi identical to the Model 01, it shares most of its components and the external appearance is the same. To order this upgraded version go to our pricelist page here. The 256MB/USB1 Model 01 is still available at a lower price.
The only differences between the 01+ and 01 are:
- 512MB RAM instead of 256MB. This is very useful as the main processor of the machine, the 1GHz Crusoe 5800 is not an X86 Pentium processor. Instead, an emulation software called CMS translates Pentium instructions into the Crusoe's 128 bit architecture. The X86 processor's hardware is replaced by a software loaded in RAM. This has an impact on performance and the impact of low memory is more significant on the Crusoe than on "real" Pentium's.
The Crusoe 1GHz will still lag behind the Pentium-M/Centrino of a Sony VGN-U70P or U71P but at least the 01+ will be running a lot more smoothly.
-30 GB hard drive space instead of 20GB.
-USB 2.0 instead of USB 1.1: the USB speed is boosted to over 40MB/s instead of a mere 1MB/s. Transfers from digital cameras, USB memory sticks and USB DVD drives are now as fast as the less used Firewire port.
-Internal speaker: the previous Model 01 had no speaker at all, only a system beeper.
-New optional accessories: much needed accessories have been added to the catalogue, such as:

The charging adapter permits the charge of a disconnected battery.
The XVGA adapter is designed to connect an OQO to an external monitor without using the bulky docking cable.

and -finally!- a strong metal case.
